Suggestion: Doing the Combat / RP Game in Facebook (etc)

Postby Lryca von Prios » Thu Aug 20, 2009 6:36 am

I believe hosting the game in a social networking site (eg. Facebook) will solve the following issues:

1. Advertising (People add friends of friends to make them stronger in games. We could link back to this forum also.)
2. Site Cost (Games have payment options for bonuses, similar to how free to play MMOs do it with their Item Malls and temporary subscriptions.)
3. Easier Development (Although I have no experience in making games in Facebook, for example, I believe they have development tools available for those wanting to create games for them.)

Some games from Facebook that are pretty well received include Mafia Wars and Castle Age. Maybe we could get something from that.

I've thought about that, but the game integrates to tightly to the board to really make that feasible. Or rather, I'm planning for it to integrate tightly. Now I may do something like that in the future, but right now, I don't really want to try to mess with that.

Well, barring that, maybe just a Facebook fan page instead. It could link to the game in the forums (there are games that are "deeper" linked - instead of just leading people to another site, the game "hotlinks" stuff from the main site and loads it within the window). Not sure if I explained that properly, but it would mean that you could host and make the game here in the boards yet make it also... "compatible" (?) with Facebook (take their Friend Invite system or something).

Sample is Mech Duels: http://www.mechduels.com/

That is a thought. I'll look into that as soon as the game is a bit more developed.

the way things are at the moment, dave has all the rights, and he is keen to let us basically go to town on runelords stuff.

so in the words of a colleague who sits beside me (called andy), 'Fill yer boots'

I like Dave. He's not an uber-git; I bet he'd never copyright a word...like Berserker for example! Crazy dead genius.

Almost makes me want to go out into the street yelling "Berserker" at the top of my lungs.
This never would have happened had Phoenix not poked me with a stick. Half-a-Waggit funny
